Precious metal guide

Metal changes more than colour. It influences weight, maintenance, price and how a piece gathers marks over time.

18k gold

Composed of 75% pure gold and alloying metals for strength. Yellow gold brings warmth, rose gold has a copper-toned blush, and white gold is cooler in appearance. White gold may be rhodium plated and can need replating as it wears.

14k gold

With 58.5% pure gold, 14k is hard-wearing and slightly less saturated in colour. It can be a practical choice for fine earring components or an active daily routine.

Platinum

Naturally white, dense and durable. Platinum develops a soft grey patina rather than losing metal in the same way as some alloys. Its weight feels substantial, and it is especially suited to secure stone settings.

Sterling silver

An alloy containing 92.5% silver. It is bright, accessible and ideal for sculptural pieces, but softer than gold or platinum and naturally tarnishes. Tarnish can usually be removed with gentle cleaning.

Recycled content and allergies

Recycled precious metal can match the performance of newly mined metal when properly refined. If you have a known metal sensitivity, tell us before ordering so we can confirm the exact alloy and recommend an appropriate option.
